How to setup a Desktop Authenticator



For each user that needs to use the desktop authenticator, they need to Reset their MFA.
MFA can be reset in two ways:
1. Self-reset option: See detailed guide here How to reset MFA on web app
2. Reset MFA using admin credentials: See detailed guide here How admin can manage MFA for users

Please note the below software is open-source software that was not created and is not supported by TruGrid.


Download WinAuth MFA app from github and extract contents of the ZIP file


Please copy MFA app from ZIP archive into the Desktop


Sign in to the TruGrid portal using edge browser using credentials provided by your admin and click on Setup Multi-factor Authentication


Select Authenticator app option


Make a screenshot of QR code using any screenshot tool How to take a screenshot to show support


Open new tab in the browser and paste the QR decoder link https://zxing.org/w/decode.jspx

Upload screenshot using Choose file button and click Submit

You will see the decoded data


Now go to the WinAuth MFA app and click Add


You will see available options there


Select Authenticator

Copy the secret as shown on the screenshot


Paste it to the secret field click decode and press on the Verify Authenticator

6 Digit MFA code will appear below


Type MFA code in the TruGrid portall window with the QR code


Put your phone number and click Get a code


Enter 4 digit SMS code.


You will be redirected to My workspace page


Go back to the WinAuth app and click Ok

You will be prompted to protect your key with password.

Create a password and click OK


Your MFA will appear in the separate window
