Fixing Windows 11 RDP Login Issue After KB5051987 Update
This guide is intended for IT Administrators or Service Providers. If you are a non-technical user, please contact your IT department or service provider for assistance.
Issue Overview
After installing the Windows Update KB5051987, some Windows users experience an issue where Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions become stuck at login if the user account is already logged in.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps to modify Group Policy settings:
Step 1: Create a Group Policy Object
Press Win + R, type gpmc.msc, and press Enter.
Step 2: Navigate to the Connections Policy
In the Group Policy Editor, go to:
Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Connections
Step 3: Modify the Network Detection Setting
Locate and double-click "Select network detection on the server" in the right pane.
Change the State to Enabled.
Under Options, set Select Network Detect Level to: "Use both Connect Time Detect and Continuous Network Detect" (first option in the list).
Click Apply, then OK.

Step 4: Apply the Policy Changes
Open an elevated Command Prompt (Run as Administrator).
Type the following command and press Enter:
gpupdate /force
Once the update completes, close the Command Prompt and test the Remote Desktop connection.
No system reboot is required.
Alternative Workaround
If the issue persists or the policy modification is not a suitable option, you can uninstall the KB5051987 update by following these steps:
Open Settings ( Win + I).
Go to Windows Update > Update History.
