How to optimize SecureRDP for CAD users

If you are using TruGrid SecureRDP to access remote machines and work in AutoCAD, this article goes over recommendations on how to optimize the experience. Much of the performance comes down to latency for AutoCAD. See this in-depth document about a Remote Desktop Analyzer than can help you measure latency between a home and office connection.

AutoCAD optimization

If you are using AutoCAD, here is a guide from AutoDesk on using their software remotely. It also provides a guide on a few things you can do to improve the experience.

Below are some settings which users have reported as being helpful:

  • On the command line in AutoCAD, type CURSORTYPE and set it to 1.
  • On the command line in AutoCAD, type GRAPHICSCONFIG and turn off hardware acceleration.

SecureRDP Brokering

Since AutoCAD performance is very latency sensitive, switching from Sentry to Secure Connect brokering can be very beneficial. See this article on how to achieve this: Utilizing Sentry and SecureConnect brokering for accessing the same machine.

Activating RDP over UDP

Since UDP protocol by it's nature works better in graphically intensive workloads, it might be beneficial to activate it for the users who need it. Please see this article which goes into depth on how this works and how to activate it: TruGrid Secure RDP - RDP over UDP
