TruGrid Desktop Connector for Windows Setup

Please follow the steps outlined below to setup TruGrid Desktop Windows Connector for use with TruGrid SecureRDP


Note for Administrators: Windows Connector can now be installed and pushed as a machine-wide installation. Please see this article.


Please follow this link if you prefer to watch a video tutorial. You must have your Windows computer, smart phone, and internet access in order to complete these steps.

Installation


Depending on the device you are using, you might be prompted for Administrative rights. These are needed for the SSO plugin and Certificate trust setup, both are optional and can be safely skipped.


  1. Download and install TruGrid Windows Connector on your Windows computer
  • a. On your Windows computer, download and install TruGrid Windows Connector from this link or the Downloads section of your TruGrid portal.
  • b. You will be asked if you want to install the "SSO plugin" and be prompted for Admin credentials, as a regular user, you can skip both:



  • c. Open the TruGrid Windows Connector and enter your login email address. Click CONTINUE.
  • d. Enter your password and click LOGIN.



  1. Get ready to setup your Multifactor Authentication
  • a. From your smart phone, go to the App Store or Play Store and search for TruGrid Authenticator (or your preferred authenticator)
  • b. Following instructions to install TruGrid Authenticator (or your preferred authenticator)
  • c. Return to your Windows computer and click NEXT



  1. Setup Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
  • a. From your Smart Phone, open the TruGrid Authenticator.
  • b. Click the + sign on top right. This will open your camera. Accept any prompt from your phone to allow TruGrid to use your camera to scan MFA setup QR code.
  • c. Use your Smart Phone to scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
  • d. From the TruGrid Authenticator on your Smart Phone, click ALLOW. This will add a six-digit security code to the display on your computer and advance it to the next screen.


If this does not happen, please manually type the six-digit code and click NEXT on your computer. This will also be the way that all non-TruGrid authenticators will work.




  1. Validate your phone. This allows you to reset your MFA in the future.
  • a. Enter your mobile phone number in the area specified on the computer and click SEND CODE.
  • b. Click GET A CODE.
  • c. Obtain the code from your mobile phone and enter it in the area specified on your computer.
  • d. Click SUBMIT AND LOGIN.



  1. Login to the TruGrid Desktop Connector
  • a. At the TruGrid Workspace, you may now connect to your assigned desktop or apps


The next time you need to connect to your remote desktop, open the TruGrid Windows Connector application and login with your password and MFA in order to connect.



Configuring the Settings


If you are ADMIN, you will be able to configure settings for your login and authorized domains. More information in this article.


  1. To configure RDP SETTINGS:
  • Click the hamburger menu on the top right corner of the TruGrid Windows Connector
  • Select SETTINGS
  • From this menu, you can customize your TruGrid experience



SSO Plugin


This type of login, it's benefits and pre-requisites is described in more details in this article. Please reach out to your TruGrid Administrator if you want to take advantage of it.



TruGrid SSO plugin is a component of the TruGrid Windows Connector that allows users who wish to have a single sign on experience when using Hybrid or EntraID only environments to authenticate against their devices using their EntraID / AzureAD credentials:




Connector updates


TruGrid Connector, by default, comes with Auto-update feature turned on. This can be turned off or on by administrators with command switches, more in this article .


When the auto-update feature is on, the connector will check for a new version any time it's started, if a new version is detected it will ask the user to install it:
